What we like about Ragdolls?
I always thought - what is in the breed that makes it so popular? Remember, we had multiple cats in our home, as well as other animals, so comparing cats of different breeds makes it easier to understand. Here is our take on it:
- Ragdolls almost do not shed
- Ragdolls are quiet
- Ragdolls are ideal cats for being kept indoors (perfect for an apartment or the noisiest household)
- In our experience they do not jump on countertops and tables (a Ragdoll will never jump on the table when you eat or prepare a meal)
- In our experience Ragdolls do not scratch furniture. It took me 3 years to give up on our Siamese, it took us 3 chairs and one couch to give up on our 2 other former rescue cats. None of our Ragdolls scratched the furniture... None...
- Ragdolls do not mind other cats - we had many issues with our cats (not Ragdolls) having disputes, especially between the same sex; however, we never experienced it with Ragdolls
- Ragdolls are great with dogs - they just ignore them. Kittens figure our quite quickly that our hound dog will chase if they run - they run, run, run, and then tiptoe past the dog, and then run again
- Ragdolls are curious cats, but they will not run at high speed to get out the door. You must be careful of what doors you open (screen doors especially), a cat will stick its nose everywhere
- Ragdolls are gentle with children and do not use their claws unless frightened or hurt. You must teach your children on how to handle a cat. Tell them that it`s not a toy and should be treated with care
- Ragdolls are sociable cats. They love their human companions. If you are sitting down, they will always come to keep you company
- Ragdolls live long lives if you treat them with care and keep them healthy
